And It Ends, and Begins….

An African-American as president? A person of mixed-race heritage as president? A liberal as president? I am almost, but not quite, speechless.  I am both proud and humbled by the result of the election. Historians, and talking heads, will discuss the whys and wherefores for years to come but as unscientific as it might be, I am going to say the ‘better angels of our nature’ enabled the race to be fought out on the issues rather than the racial make-up of the candidates, and that is a very, very good thing. As someone else said “Hope is a good thing, perhaps the best of things” and the country voted for someone who believes in hopes and dreams. Unrealistic? Perhaps, but ‘hope is a good thing’ and I am hopeful that we can and will do better.
